INVOLVEMENT - Continued:

FAITH FORMATION:

FAITH FORMATION takes on many forms, sizes and shapes. It is about building up the Body of Christ which is the Church. It takes in the programs and processes that help us continue to grow as believing, practicing, informed Catholics. Catechesis is a life-long process whose purpose is to make a person’s faith become living conscious, and active.

THE PROGRAMS UNDER FAITH FORMATION ARE:

- SUNDAY SCHOOL
RA currently offers Religious Education for grades 1 – 7. Sunday School is an opportunity for children to gather, learn, and discuss their faith with their peers. Sacramental preparation is incorporated into these classes. Children should come to Sunday school every school year because faith formation is an ongoing process.   Registration forms must be filled out each year you register.

Our classes are led by dedicated Catechists who joyfully volunteer their time each week.  They have responded to Christ’s call to serve and preach the Gospel. Students are greeted in a friendly atmosphere where they learn how much Jesus loves them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

    v  Class Times are Sundays from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    v  Classes begin Sunday, September 9, 2007

Parents who wish to enroll their children in our faith formation program may do so by downloading the registration forms and set up an appointment with the Office of Faith Formation.

New to our Sunday School Program? Welcome! Kindly make an appointment with the Director and bring in the Baptismal certificate and Birth certificate. We are looking forward to meeting you.

- CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Children are invited to be with a children’s preacher during the liturgy part of the Mass. With the Priest’s blessing, children are led by one of our weekly preachers upstairs to the Church Meeting Room. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, these Catechists work to convey God’s Word in a way the children can relate to.

- BAPTISM PREPARATION
Congratulations on the new member of your family! Children are a precious gift from God. Our faith is also a gift, and Baptizing your child is such an important step. Our Catechism states, “Baptism makes us members of the Body of Christ: "Therefore… we are members one of another."
71 Baptism incorporates us into the Church. From the baptismal fonts is born the one People of God of the New Covenant, which transcends all the natural or human limits of nations, cultures, races, and sexes: "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body."72 1267

v  If you are seeking to have your child Baptized, please call to discuss this further. 718-533-7898

v  If you are an adult wishing to be Baptized, or receive the Sacrament of Eucharist or Confirmation, please review the RCIA section below.

- PRAYER GROUPS
The purpose of a prayer group is to help one another to grow in relationship to God through reflection on Sacred Scripture and faith-sharing.  In this way small faith-sharing communities help to develop discerning hearts open to the on-going call to conversion. For prayer groups that meet at different times during the year, please consult the bulletin for dates.

- RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
The RCIA is the process by which adults enter the Catholic Church. As a process of conversion, the team members help, support and encourage the spiritual journey of each person in responding to the Lord’s call to “come and see.” The goal is discipleship into the Christian way of life. The language of becoming a disciple is the language of the heart. It is about human interaction, prayer, intellectual study, the people in our lives, the people of the Sacred Scriptures, and the people in the Church. There are celebrations along the way to reaching the glorious Easter Vigil where together with the parish community we celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. It is a learning and loving process where the Spirit leads you to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

v Is this what you are searching for?

v Do you wish to be baptized Catholic?

v Are you baptized and want to receive the Eucharist? Confirmation?

Jesus asked, “What do you want?”
They said, “Where do you live?”
Jesus said, “Come and see.”
